As we prepared for the effects of the pandemic, we were able to help our friends experiencing hardship thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Middlesbrough Foodbank and Middlesbrough Environment City donated chickpeas, kidney beans and tomatoes, whilst regular cash donations and additional help from Catalyst, Jill Franklin Trust, Awards for All and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation ensured that the 80-100 people that we assist each week had sufficient to see them through the lockdown period.
When Christmas came, we were acutely aware of the impact of social isolation and gave everyone a top-up phone card so that they could keep in touch with friends.
After Christmas, Pete commented: “ I would like to reiterate how fantastic it is to provide food for everyone as well as the double cash payments. This is, in the main, due to the food we have collected from MEC and Middlesbrough Foodbank, and the additional grants applied for and personal donations, assisted our Treasurer’s Gift Aid and electronic donations achievements, the excellent newsletter designed by Veronica and the support and love from all of our trustees. The support we are providing is really appreciated by everyone and makes a huge difference to their physical and mental wellbeing, self-esteem and self-worth – you can see it in their eyes! Well done everyone.”
