Refugee Week 2024
17th to 23rd June 2024
Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience, and creativity of refugees. Each year, thousands of independently organised events take place globally. Explore what’s happening near you by browsing through the calendar below.
Refugee Week is an open platform & everyone is invited to get involved. You can support local events, take part in Simple Acts, or even host your own activity!
“To me, a home is where you feel loved, safe, and cherished.”- Malala Yousafzai
The theme for Refugee Week 2024 is “Our Home”. From the places we gather to share meals to our collective home, planet earth: everyone is invited to celebrate what our Our Home means to them.
Home can be a place of refuge, a feeling or a state of mind. It can be found in smells, tastes and sounds. From the clothes we wear to the words we grew up with. It’s in food, music and arts. It’s in our cultures and in our landscapes.
Home can be more than one place and finding it can be a journey, as it is for so many of us who have to leave our countries and rebuild our lives. Sometimes we can find home in a single person. Other times it’s in a whole community. And often, it’s in a single gesture of care and welcome.
What would happen if this Refugee Week we extended our warmth and hospitality beyond our own homes and made entire neighbourhoods more welcoming? Simple acts like having a chat, walking together, or sending a message of welcome can help everyone feel like they belong. Together, we can work in solidarity to ensure all our neighbours, new and familiar, have safe and welcoming homes.
Our home is also global. We are interconnected; we share the earth’s resources, climate and its challenges. As we speak, millions of people are being displaced from their homes because of the climate crisis. But, exchanging knowledge, both new and traditional, can help us in practical ways to build hope for the future.
Together, this Refugee Week let’s practice our solidarity and make Our Home a more welcoming, safe and sustainable place for all.
Refugee Week 2024 is 17–23 June, join us!

Justice First
Five A - Side Football Tournament
Saturday 15th June 2024
Fundraising Five A-Side Football Tournament.
I am writing on behalf of Justice First, a local charity of which I am proud to be a Patron, to ask for your support for a forthcoming sporting event. After the huge success of previous years, we are once again planning to hold a Football Tournament on:
Saturday 15th June 2024,
Between 10am and 2pm at:
Goals Soccer Centre Teesside
Stockton Road, Middlesbrough TS5 4AF
Justice First is a registered charity which works with people who have fled persecution but have been refused protection. It helps those whose asylum applications have been refused to re-engage with the system. Many clients are destitute, and they are not allowed to seek work, access public funds or apply for emergency homeless accommodation. Justice First liaises with other agencies to gather evidence to support asylum claims, give advice, find solicitors, and generally offer a friendly face to people who don’t often see one.
We recognise that these are austere times for us all, but there are a number of ways in which you can help and your commitment can be in proportion to your budget.
Here are some of the ways in which you can help:
- Enter a team on the day.
- Make a donation towards the overheads of organising the event – your company name will be included in publicity.
- Donate a prize for the raffle.
We hope that in any event you will come along and enjoy the day. Football is something that has given me a lot of pleasure over the years and it is good to think that we can have fun, promote the work of Justice First and raise money for a good cause at the same time.
Yours Sincerely
Curtis Fleming
Patron of Justice First & Charlton Athletic Assistant Head Coach.
