Sponsored Walk
15th September
The day was overcast, but spirits were high when around 20 walkers accompanied by a number of four-legged friends set off from Grosmont Station to follow the Grosmont to Goathland 'rail trail' on Sunday 15th September.
The group are pictured outside the home of Jackie, who has been a supporter of Mary Thompson Fund for many years. She kindly offered hospitality at the half way point and the walkers were looked after by a team of volunteers serving much needed cups of tea!
The Sponsorship received currently stands at just over £800 and donations are still coming in. This much needed cash will enable us to continue supporting around 70 destitute asylum seekers across Tees Valley, and also to consider additional requests for help with the purchase of school uniforms, travel costs etc.
A big thank you to our Chair Pete Widlinski for organising this successful and thoroughly enjoyable event!
Some of our Trustees were treated to a fantastic evening of music and song at the ‘Singing for Justice’ fundraising concert, hosted by the staff of our partner charity, Justice First.
Proceeds were donated to Justice First and the Forever Home in the Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC).
Forever Home, was founded by a former Justice First client, and supports 10 children who had been orphaned and reduced to living on the street. The Forever Home provides them with safety, food, education, school uniforms, medical care and most importantly, love and stability. Thanks to the vision of one man and those who have supported his community organising efforts, these children have found a home.
The concert featured incredible performances by musicians from Europe, Africa, Central America, and even North East Opera! We are so grateful to all the talented artists who made the evening so special!
